Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know before you volunteer

Do I need experience to volunteer? +

Not at all! We welcome volunteers of all skill levels. Our experienced farmers will teach you everything you need to know. Whether you've never touched soil or you're a seasoned gardener, there's a place for you here.

What should I bring? +

Wear comfortable clothes you don't mind getting dirty, closed-toe shoes (boots recommended), a sun hat, sunscreen, and a reusable water bottle. We provide gloves, tools, and everything else you'll need. Bring your enthusiasm and willingness to learn!

Can I bring my kids? +

Yes! Children ages 6 and up are welcome when accompanied by a parent/guardian. It's a wonderful family activity and a great way to teach kids about where food comes from. We have some lighter tasks perfect for younger volunteers.

Is lunch really free? +

Absolutely! Every volunteer receives a delicious organic vegetarian lunch made with farm-fresh ingredients. We can accommodate dietary restrictions and allergies - just let us know in advance. Coffee, tea, and snacks are also provided throughout the day.

How long is a volunteer shift? +

A full volunteer day runs from 8 AM to 4 PM, but you're welcome to come for a half day (morning or afternoon) if that works better for your schedule. We appreciate any time you can give!

What if it rains? +

Light rain won't stop us - we'll provide rain gear! In case of severe weather, we'll contact you the evening before to reschedule. We have indoor activities like seed starting and farm tours available as backup options.

Can I volunteer as a group? +

Yes! We love hosting corporate teams, school groups, church groups, and friend groups. For groups of 10 or more, please contact us directly so we can coordinate and ensure we have enough space and activities planned.

Where exactly is the farm located? +

REALTIME FARM is located at 846 Jefferson Pike, Knoxville, Md 21758, just 15 minutes outside Frederick. Detailed directions and a map will be sent to you after you sign up. Parking is free and plentiful!
